Why take our word for it? Of course the staff say the school is great, but what do our recent graduates have to say about Findon High School?
Jessica Hampton

After completing my Secondary Schooling at Findon High School I have now decided to go to the University of SA and study a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education. I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to study at University without the support of my teachers and their unwavering belief in me. When I began at Findon as a Year 8, I lacked confidence and I didn’t believe that I had the ability to one day enrol at University. The day the Year 12 results came out was a daunting day for me but I was excited none the less; I knew that this would be the day that I would find out if I would be continuing to work towards the career that I aspired to for my whole life. The teachers at Findon High School pushed me to be the best version of myself. Their support, guidance and the educational opportunities they offered helped me to finally believe I was capable of achieving my goal if I believed in myself, and now my dream is a reality. My teachers instilled within me, the work ethic and dedication needed to be successful and I definitely learnt that I couldn’t just sit back and wait till the last minute to complete my work if I wanted to achieve my best. I needed to put time into completing homework, studying for tests and seeking teacher feedback. I will take this knowledge into my University studies. I know that wouldn’t have had this opportunity without the support from the teachers and staff at Findon High School.

High school can really shape one’s life and studying at Findon High School was one of the best choices I have made. Findon has inspired me so much. Not only have I completed High School as a more confident individual, but I have been inspired to always think big and always aim high. I was always challenged to my best and believe that anything was possible if I persisted. I remember in Year 10 one of my teachers made me stay in the more challenging Maths classes even though I thought I couldn’t succeed and because of the continuous faith he had in me I stayed the whole year and then went on to do Maths in Year 12; I learnt to enjoy Maths. All my other teachers have had a positive influence and always pushed me to push past my road blocks to achieve my personal best. Findon High School opened many doors through opportunities to be involved in the community, enabling me to establish new friendships and make wide networks that I will definitely use into the future. Being a part of the SRC, the She Leads leadership program, countless sports carnivals and even assisting receptions and grade ones for a term, teaching Drama have been integral in these community connections. I was also given the opportunity to do work experience in a migration law firm in which I now work. My teachers were the most supportive people I have ever met. I was inspired to want to study law from Year 10 because of the support and enthusiasm from my inspirational teacher, Mrs Campbell who even built a courtroom for us. I am now on the path to complete a double degree in Law and Sociology at the University of Adelaide. I will take away the many lifelong learning lessons, the beautiful memories and most importantly the inspiration that Findon High School provided me. I implore all current and future Findon students to take advantage of the many doors of opportunities Findon High School will open for you.

One of the hardest decisions for parents is choosing the right secondary school. Choosing Findon High School is something I highly recommend to all parents. Findon offers so many opportunities and caters for every single child: the sports lover, the artist, the tech studies enthusiast, the actor or the dancer. Findon offers the chance to explore new and innovative activities for example the Ice Factor Program and the Ski Trip. I myself would never have thought that I would ever skate or snowboard in my life, but because of this opportunity that was offered to me by Findon High, I have developed new skills that and interests which I will take into my life into the future. Findon High School’s staff and students are amazing. One of the best things about Findon High School is the small number of students enrolled. Due to this you are always guaranteed to have the teacher with you in every class, working alongside you, one on one time or just to have a casual talk to build that important relationship that will lead to success. The staff at Findon stop at nothing to make sure that every student’s education and safety are put first. Everyone is genuine and the teachers work tirelessly to make sure every single student succeeds. One of the teachers at Findon even managed to work with students and the wider community to raise $20,000 to build a fully functioning court room. Yes, a fully functioning court room! What a unique offering and an exciting and authentic place in which to learn! Findon emphasizes teachers working with students to help them gain knowledge, rather than standing in front of a board talking for an hour and a half continuously developing themselves to find new ways to teach students. So far it has worked perfectly with the last two Year 12 cohorts achieving their SACE in record numbers: completion rates of more than 90%. At Findon High School, I have gained valuable knowledge and skills and am now studying at university level and at the same time, I made lifelong friends. I highly recommend Findon High School as the place for your child’s secondary education.

"Following my successful completion of the SACE, I am now working for the SA Government in Shared Services as a Payroll Officer and already I am taking the skills gained at Findon and the experiences I had into this new chapter in my life. Findon inspired me to work hard academically to get the best out of myself. Findon supported me by always lending a helping hand; there were so many supportive figures in the classroom and schoolyard. Findon always challenged me to learn and explore new possibilities."

"As a former student of Findon High, I would by all means recommend the school to parents and students for a range of reasons. Findon provides students with many great opportunities and also allows them to get involved with a range of activities. From the numerous excursions offered each year, to Sports Days, school camps and much more. What I loved most about Findon was always being able to have one on one encounters with the teachers due to the smaller class sizes. This allowed me to broaden my knowledge and also get the help I needed to improve my work. As a whole, Findon High is filled with friendly, happy teachers and students, making it easy for the Year 8's to fit in. I am definitely appreciative of being able to spend my senior schooling at such a homely, organised school and am thankful for all the opportunities I was given".

"Firstly, I would like to thank all of you for having and supporting me for 10 months. It was such a fantastic time and I really enjoyed every single moment at Findon High School. I found Findon more relaxed than my Japanese high school and this is one of the things I loved about Findon. I always like having sunshine outside (not on the 39 degrees day though) and relaxing for next lesson. In my Japanese high school, most students including me are always inside, even during breaks and we don’t move room each lessons so I was always in the same class room for the whole day. However, since I came to Findon, I walk around in the school every day. I feel it gives me a stretch after each lesson which I always wanted to do in Japan. I would like to talk more about what I loved about Findon High School. I still remember when I first came to Findon High School. I was very nervous but also excited starting a new school life there. When I got to the front office, there were the teachers who welcomed me and I felt happy and comfortable to be there. I also remember that many of you helped and talked to me that day. (I know all of you always helped me and I really appreciate it.) I felt very happy when you offered help for me, like “Do you need any help?” and everything you did for me has absolutely made my school life easy. Not only the students but the teachers support my schooling at Findon. Every teacher always talked to me and I always had a good time talking with the teachers. I never really felt comfortable talking with teachers before I came to Findon. I also liked the ways the teachers’ were teaching me. I found teachers really helpful for every student; they treated us as adults, which is great. I always loved taking to the teachers so I definitely will miss every teacher at Findon. I also liked lessons, I found them more individual but make us be discussing. From taking lessons, I have learnt that asking questions is very important to not only achieve well but get ideas. When I came here, I couldn’t ask questions until I had got an offer of helping because I never used to. You might not believe it, but I never really asked question to teacher during lesson even when I was confused, in Japan. I now don’t really know why I didn’t do that because I now ask questions to teachers and always get good idea from it. I’ve also had opportunities to attend some events. I tried Rock Climbing for the first time and I really enjoyed it. However the most memorable event I had was music concert (performance). I performed as a member of Year 11 band many times and I always had a great time. I really liked my year 11 band because our performance was always getting better and better each we practice and we actually enjoyed every song. I just want to thank all band member and Ms. Stanco, for having me in their fantastic band. I still have a lot of things I want to talk to you about how my life at Findon was great. Again, thank you for having me; I swear I will miss you and Findon soon!"

"When I attended Findon High School it was an amazing experience that left me with so many great memories I will never forget. I have high regard for Findon High School and would recommend any parent to enroll their children there. With numerous amounts of possibilities, Findon High provides students with the foundations to develop their skills, confidence, and self-esteem as well as providing a safe environment for students to build new friendships or to maintain existing friendships. Findon High gives students the chance to explore their interests, and this occurs through the programs offered at the school. Whether students are interested in sport, art, music or academics, there are activities and programs that cater for a diverse range of interests. Such activities and programs include Sports Day, numerous excursions, afterschool sports, afterschool dance, ‘Literacy Olympics’ and many more. Looking back at my years at Findon High, I think what I loved the most was the access we had to our teachers due to smaller class sizes. This allowed each student to receive the assistance and guidance they need to be able to achieve highly as well as feeling valued by their teachers. Small class sizes allow students and teachers to form unique bonds that continue well after high school. I also enjoyed how friendly everyone is, both students and teachers, and how easy it was to make friends and to have a friendly relationship with most students. I loved walking down the halls and recognizing everyone , instead of walking down the hall to a face of strangers. All in all, Findon High School is a welcoming and friendly environment, filled with cheerful teachers who care about all students, and students who are accepting and respectful of all peers. I cannot imagine myself attending any other high school for my senior schooling as Findon High gave me the drive, motivation and confidence to achieve success and be my best self. "
