What is SAASTA?
The South Australian Aboriginal Secondary Training Academy (SAASTA) is a Department for Education program that empowers Aboriginal secondary students by celebrating culture, building leadership, and opening pathways to education and employment opportunities.
As a SAASTA school-based academy, Findon High School offers culturally safe and responsive learning experiences that connect education with Aboriginal culture and community.
SAASTA equips Aboriginal students with the skills, confidence, and opportunities to dream, believe, and achieve across education, employment, and cultural identity. Students are encouraged to aim high in attendance, participation, and achievement, while acting as role models for their families and communities.
SAASTA Focus Areas
All SAASTA students are guided by six focus areas that build the foundation for success in school and beyond:
- Academic Performance: support to achieve across all curriculum areas.
- Attendance: maintaining at least 80% attendance, with all absences explained.
- Behaviour: meeting their school’s behaviour expectations.
- Teamwork: demonstrating collaboration and active participation.
- Pride: representing SAASTA positively in school, uniform, and community.
- Respect: showing courtesy and fair play in all interactions.
These expectations inspire students to take pride in their learning, demonstrate leadership, and celebrate culture, and preparing them for future opportunities in study, training, or employment.
SAASTA Academy at Findon
High School
Findon High School proudly hosts a SAASTA Academy for Aboriginal students in Years 10–12.
The academy offers specialised SACE subjects such as Integrated Learning, Aboriginal Studies, and Health and Wellbeing. Each subject is designed to strengthen cultural identity, build leadership capacity, and amplify Aboriginal voices while supporting SACE completion and pathways into further education, training, or employment.
For Findon High School Students (Years 10–12)
If you are already enrolled at Findon High School, joining the SAASTA Academy is part of the regular subject selection process. Simply discuss your interest with your subject counsellor or the SACE coordinator. They will guide you on how to include SAASTA curriculum options within your SACE pathway to ensure a supportive and well-rounded learning experience.
For Students from Other Schools (Years 10–12)
The Findon High School SAASTA Academy welcomes students from neighbouring schools. Through a split enrolment arrangement, you can remain at your current school for other SACE subjects while attending Findon High School specifically for SAASTA curriculum and academy activities. This flexible option enables you to benefit from the specialised program without leaving your home school community.
