Findon High School is proud to partner with the Beacon Foundation.

The Beacon Foundation is a national non-profit organisation which has worked in over 180 schools and communities across Australia providing effective and innovative approaches to tackle youth unemployment through practical programs introduced into secondary schools.

The organisation has an established track record of helping inspire and motivate students to either stay in school and increase their educational engagement and attainment, or choose a positive pathway that enables a more successful transition to employment, further education or training.

Beacon believes that every young person has the right to hope, a job, financial opportunity and the sense of personal success this provides them. They work with schools, businesses and communities to help bring relevance to the curriculum, and inspire young people to think about careers and experience the workplace, long before they leave school. This helps school retention rates and teaches real-life skills, preparing them for the workplace.

Student focussed activities such as speed careering, mentoring, mock interviews, a suite of unique High Impact Work Readiness programs, industry visits and work placements, all require input and support from key local businesses and industry. These programs focus on the school to work transition, encouraging and motivating students to stay on track.

Beacon also facilitates collaborative classroom workshops where teachers are paired with industry partners to co-design lesson plans that have an authentic work practice focus that is aligned to the curriculum. These lesson plans are then co-delivered by the teacher and industry partner.

The Beacon model is based around providing secondary students with the knowledge and expertise to make informed decisions about their future. Its success is driven by strong partnerships with business and the local community and their active participation in supporting and inspiring our students about their future.
